UVW mapping.

This guide is about how to retexture a skin using the UVW mapping tool.

2k10 is the version I use.

Start with whatever texture and model you want. For this guide, I'm gonna be using sweet.dff with a singleplayer baseball jersey texture (bandits.txd in player.img).

Open Max and import your dff. Start by highlighting the mesh you want to use the texture on. For example, I'm going to highlight the entire shirt, sleeves, underneath, etc and then drag bandits.png on it (make sure to export it in txdworkshop first lmfao).

BTW I know it's already done, I'm going to ruin it and do it over just for you :)

After you drag the texture, it'll probably not fit right, look stretched in some areas, and just plain fucky. To fix this, we're gonna use the uvw map tool. Highlight only the front of the shirt, like so:

Insert other media

Then on the modifier list dropdown menu on the right, scroll down towards the bottom and find UVW map. Once you click it, it'll look something like this:

Not right... Scroll down, click the Y axis dot to align it properly, then hit fit to fit it to the model. Then, it looks a little better.

Right click UVW map and click collapse to. You're done UVW mapping. Do the same with the front, back and then the sleeves. Hit Y, Z, or X depending on what looks the best.

I'll cover UVW unwrapping/fitting in a second post later today.

Nice guide.

Just a little note to others trying to UVW map. If you drag and drop the texture you're trying to UVW map onto the skin and you can't seem to get the picture you're trying to texture to go up straight on the skin you may have to go to your photo editing program and flip it 90 degrees CCW or CW. Just a little note as this is an issue I faced while UVW mapping.
