Anyone else wondering how is the server's economy going to be? Will there be a payday every hour wether we work or not?
I'd love to see something different that would force people to work more for their money. Well, "force" is a little bit extreme, but you know what I mean.
Now that I think twice about it, what I really want is some sort of system that would stop people from becoming rich so easily. (aka savings system on you know what server).
OH, it just hit me. What would make the server great, in my opinion, is if all of its jobs were based a lot on player interaction. A job should at least affect the other players in some sort of way, if not directly at least indirectly. A negative example is this: fishing on you know what server.
Is the management going to focus on this matter or we'll just keep things simple? It'd be fun anyways, but since its a fresh start, why not make things super cool?
These are some basic suggestions people made about the economy. All of us hope that attention will be given to make an economy where people can't just sit on their ass after buying a house and owning a vehicle, we hope they need to work to support their expensive habbits of evading the police and trashing their car while doing so. From what I heard, savings like ''you know what server'' will not happen and the interest on it will be a lot more realistic.
There must be something that causes people to constantly have to work for money instead of sitting on their ass with their assets going nowhere as Tsai said. Taxes should be proper for different sections of the city. Sales tax and income tax can easily be integrated into the server. There are also many ways this can be accomplished that I cannot think up on the spot.
I would like to see maybe a weekly pay day, or a daily one? So during a week you'd have to be online for something like 5 hours to get your weekly pay check, and make it pretty reasonable, and have the rest of your money being made at work.
I think in some of rehashers very early posts about the server from a long time ago (things might have changed since then) he did like the idea of having a server with fun jobs.
I don't think jobs will turn out well if explicit focus is put on them tbh, even things like trucking which Damien envisioned as an interactive job, boil down to robotic tasks done half assedly, half OOCly, with people pushing their characters to truck even when realistically having that person work as a trucker is a bit odd.
Can't blame players though, if for example fishing is the only way to get money and you happen to want to roleplay something other than a fisherman, you're bound to be forced to fish and just throw any consideration of immersion/characterization/realism aside. Similar things can be said about trucking.
My point is this: The only thing scripted jobs can work well with are blue collar work (garbage man, trucker, fisherman, etc) anything else is odd to script. This necessarily either limits roleplay options (RP poor or a blue collar worker) or pushes players to RP a character with another occupation and just half-ass an excuse to grind (since they'll still need e-money to RP anything except poverty well).
This is why hourly payments work well, it mainly helps players who want to roleplay characters that get income from activities not scriptable, with all occupations except a minority being unscriptable. With hourly pay cheques players can realistically roleplay characters without engaging in unimmserive grinding.
Anyway the most fun jobs have very little to do with scripts.
