How are gangs going to work out with the location?

San Fierro is a very dense city, there are some areas in the default SF area that would work out well for traditional street gangs but not all gangs are street gangs (as others have mentioned!).

Also, our very talented mapping team are also helping to make the San Fierro area much more realistic, developed and diverse and ultimately are aiming to provide the best roleplay opportunities for all players.

If there is anything specific that you would like to see for street gangs etc. feel free to make a suggestion in the suggestions area, whether that be for a general idea or mapping!

Honestly it's a gauranteed fact that the server is gonna reach max players so they should just open LS anyways.

I wouldn't wanna go back to LS. Why not having LV and SF open? I believe that would fit the server better. Plus, the talk of expansion is a long way off. The server hasn't even opened yet and everyone is worried about expanding to other areas.

No, highly unlikely. Why would they do that when SF is right there? Bay Area will be full, of course - people will then merge down into SF.

Drop your ass at ocean flats, if you wanna encounter a lot of set. haha

Ocean flats has some shaddy alleyways, i wouldn't be surprised if people started role-playing gangs around there, but it also doesn't look right, it's a fancy neighbourhood with view of the ocean and colourful houses. It's a lot like the place where you would expect to get invited at your neighbour's barbeque.

Unlike LS which is inspired by Los Angeles (which is the gang capital of the nation), San Fierro which is inspired by San Francisco and similarly to New York, it fits a lot more gangsters with suits.

Maybe we could map in a little poverty division of SF lol.

The fact that the server's name is Bay Area completely blew over my head lmao. Disregard what I said hahaha.

I think the urban environment provided by San Fierro will bring forth great change for gang roleplay, it sort of enforces a modern mindset if you think about it. You can't get the same effect from other cities like Los Santos -- their infrastructure and the way they are modeled, their textures, everything about them just screams "old and outdated", hence why a lot of factions there tend to opt out for more old school concepts, even ones that are already obsolete IRL. I don't think we're gonna see that in San Fierro, it's likely going to be more realistic and modern.

And let's be real here, you don't need a war-torn, poverty-stricken favela to roleplay a gang in, that's just not how things work in real life.

Although most gang hoods do look a little rough with some graffiti here and there, you wouldn't be able to distinguish a lot of them from normal neighborhoods. I mean, if you don't believe me, just go watch videos or something, everything looks normal and civilized apart from some broken fences and graffiti. You gotta remember that a gang in real life on its own is not a community, it's a mere sub-group -- it may be influential, but it's no way a majority. Most people that would be living in a neighborhood are civilians and would rather stay away from crime, they have families to take care of, not everyone is brave/stupid/unlucky enough to risk it all.

No sane neighborhood or church council would let the appearance of their home deteriorate into some post-apocalyptic ghetto with crack dens everywhere, super old infrastructure, etc. San Fierro is good as it is, really, we don't need Central-American ghettos from the 80s so that we can have proper gang roleplay. We don't even need special mapping -- some graffiti here and there would be nice along with trash (e.g. chairs and couches scattered throughout the alleys, etc), yeah, but that's all, just keep it vanilla. And for reference, here's a map with all the gang-controlled areas in GTA:SA singleplayer:

Do you see Ocean Flats or Santa Flora marked up on there, what about all the other neighborhoods that some of y'all said are the only ones suitable for gang roleplay? Nope, none -- Rockstar highlighted everything else instead. What this means is that practically all areas in San Fierro are suitable for gang roleplay, especially when you take into account the fact that we'll likely have apartment complexes spread around the city. Also, do remember that San Fierro has literally the best and most realistic street grid in San Andreas, this will allow for some very intense corner and gang beef roleplay, like who claims what block, etc.

I don't know about you guys, but I'm hyped as fuck to roleplay a gang member in SF. The atmosphere, the buildings, everything is just so much better than LS and LV.

As far as I know, the mapping team has done a wonderful job with mapping ghetto neighborhoods, and I think that once the server is up, we would not recognize SF.  I believe that the staff have made a lot of changes.

Sounds interesting.

There's enough hood in SF.

Lots of people that arent familiar with the US, think the hoods have to look like Hiroshima in the 1900s when the bombs dropped lol

If you're having a hard time visualising it, take a drive round GTA4's Liberty City. There's plenty of gangs around apartment complexes and even housing areas.

That's one thing I really hoped for with IVMP, seeing New York and New Jersey based gangs and culture.

GTA 4's Liberty City looks nothing like SF.

It was an example, mainly sub-urban and commercial and barely any proper housing plots with gardens.

GTA IV's whole map just about was gritty besides the small side street nicer neighborhoods. Anyways, can't wait to see the creativity behind gangs in SF.

It's not like Los Santos , but it still has like a hood / gang locations.
