What would you like to see in San Fierro Police Department?

Seeing that this is a new place for a lot of people, SF has a TON of tourism, adding some things like bus tours of the city, golden gate bridge walks, and a multitude of other things that will help show people around the city to gain some knowledge about the city.

SF has been slept on for so long, and I'm very happy that Bay Area Role-play has decided to create a flourishing place for community members to gather on a new chapter of role-play.

EDIT: Didn't know this thread was a PD thread.

Then everyone should have the ability to use it then. If us criminals can call backup via /r then PD should do the same. But I don't care cause if PD are able to use teamspeak or discord to communicate i'll do the same. Cause it's not fair at all that's bias as hell. PD doesn't just use voice communication to update on the suspect's location they do whatever the hell they want with it and they use it as an advantage thus stating if PD have the ability to use voice communication everyone should aswell just to make it fair I don't see why we can't use discord to communicate with our friends in the first place.

As many people have stated in this topic, PD is held to higher standards than the rest, and it actually sets the standards of the server. Joining it entails a long and thorough recruitment process that only a few pass through.

Therefore, PD can be trusted to sensibly use TeamSpeak as an asset, as officers have much to lose for misusing it, whereas the rest don't have much to lose. I have nothing against factions with high standards having the ability to use TeamSpeak in character.

As for the microphone and English accent issue, believe me when I say that this helps you. You can learn to speak in English and it will be so useful in real life. Just today at university a girl from Poland was looking for an office, and nobody could help her as nobody could speak English. So she came across me and I helped her easily. With the ability to type and speak in English, you can pass language exams such at Cambridge, and study abroad, which will unavoidably make your life better.

Honestly, you should look at the bigger picture, instead of limiting yourselves to small details like having to learn to speak in English (which is fun!) or not being trusted enough to use TeamSpeak in character. Try to join PD and you'll see that things aren't as you think. There is no constant abuse, using TeamSpeak is done sensibly and while there could be some bad apples that sometimes overuse it, trust me when I say that the impact is minimal, many of these cases result in punishments, and PD cannot be prefect, it is made of humans, and where humans are, imperfections will also be.

Hi,

Sorry if this has already been clarified, but is there a microphone requirement?

Yes.

I'd like to see good PD community which is sometimes rare to find.

Big shame.

I don't really understand why most roleplay servers have the microphone requirement. There are perfectly feasible workarounds, and such a requirement makes things more restrictive for potential candidates and recruiters alike. It's especially a shame due to the fact it's been highlighted that microphones are only a secondary form of communication on this server. Oh well.

Without microphones, you got no way to update during car and foot pursuits. Given that PD is involved in such events every so often, they need microphones more than anyone else. There's no feasible option other than adding an unrealistic /trace command to show and update an officer's location. Microphone communication is way better and more fair than that. It doesn't influence you negatively at all, and if you gotta know how to speak in English to join PD, it comes to your advantage.

Edit: should pry clarify this is not a suggestion to add some sort of tracking command, just saying it's not unheard of

Realism. Developing characters too, none of the 24/7 cold blooded cop.

It doesn't influence you negatively at all, and if you gotta know how to speak in English to join PD, it comes to your advantage.

Other workarounds include:

  • Always having a partner, one with a microphone
  • Taking a back-seat role in pursuits, and trying not to get involved in them in the first place (there is a lot more to RPing a cop than just pursuits; but I know that's stating the obvious)
  • If, despite the above, instant communication is needed, I'm not sure how difficult it would be to make some sort of /location command which outputs something like: "I'm heading [direction], on road [current location]". That would be a fair way to do it I think.

Also worth keeping in mind what thatoneiowan said, about tracing actually being a thing (I know he was just putting it out there and not necessarily supporting what I'm saying, but it's still worth mentioning in this post).

I also think it's worth noting that sometimes people are reluctant for other reasons (not just accent / language barrier related). It could also be related to confidence, speech disabilities and so forth. I just wish we moved on from this microphone requirement, especially on a promising server such as this.

Team speak has always put me off roleyplaying a cop. I think its completely unnecessary for a well managed faction.

During car pursuits your partner who comes along with you as a passanger can give location updates to other cops in chat. I've seen plenty of lsrp videos, where cops talk into their microphones as they're firing at someone, or even when falling to the ground dead, they still manage to call backup.

Buck (Premium Member) ·

You will not always have a partner. PD gets involved in lots of dynamic situations daily, therefore having the need to use TeamSpeak more than the standard population.

I am done going back and forth about this, someone always finds a way to nitpick on it due to a minority that abuses it and it is beyond my understanding. If this is the logic then we should remove the guns from the game because people abuse them to DM.

Alright, first of all.

I was afraid this thread didn't exist and our PD will be same as the LSRP's. But I finally have hope after reading this thread but also some concerns.

      •Robo-cops

      •TeamSpeak/Discord

Robo-cops.

We all know, these cops are cold and work on-duty EVERY hour of his/her time. So, I would like there to be a limited amount of time you can stay on-duty per day, giving them time to develop their characters and do something else instead their job.

If they just log off after spending every hour of their time as a cop, they can face the consequences.

If they don't care about the development of their characters such as

"I-... I killed him... I **stutters** -...had to..", they can face the consequences aswell.

TeamSpeak/Discord.

This shouldn't be used as the main communication. We have the IG-radio for that, I understand there are situations where a cop can't type. Such as the shoot-outs and pursuits. That is why every cop is obliged to take his/her partner together with him/herself. So, whoever drives the cruiser, his/her partner(passenger) can type. During the shoot-outs, they can have the cmd ./bp which allows them to call for the back-up. So, if I use ./bp , it will automatically transmit my name and location to all available units. "Firstname_Lastname needs the back-up! Respond to their location immediately!" You will see the marker on the radar.

You shouldn't need the microphone in order to join the factions aswell. The recruitment system doesn't need to be so hard where only a few can pass. What I mean with that is, no one wants the academy to last a week or more. Keep in mind, not the only people who have shitty accent or whatever issues they have. But also the people with impaired hearing or issues with their voices.

Buck (Premium Member) ·

The thing about the character's response to various situations is that we are unique as humans and there really is not a standard human response to each situation. For example killing, not everyone is bound to react the same upon doing it. Some will be quiet and keep their feelings about it to themselves, some will stutter, some will cry, some will puke, some will freeze, some will not care all that much about it. Just because someone roleplays a different reaction than you would, it does not always mean that they are a bad roleplayer, maybe that is how they wish to develop their character, and we should really be free to develop as we wish, with realism in mind.

choda96 (Member) ·

I hope there will be limited  number of cops on duty, and limited number of vehicles durning pursuits

On LSRP I witnessed when 1/3 of players were on duty cops which is totally not realistic. There were like 50 of 150 players on the server on duty cops.

I think you should limit number of on duty cops scriptiwse, to 1/5 of currnent players online, so let's say there is 150 players online, max amount of cops can be 30.

Also you should OOCly limit number of police cars chasing suspect. I've seen planty of time on LSRP that 8+ patrol cars chase one guy because he ran away from traffic stop.

I mean it's not realistic for whole department to chase one guy for eluding only because they are bored and got nothing else to do.

mike2raw (Member) ·

The kids who are complaining about pd using team speak are the kids who constantly lose shootouts with them. Google an average policemen/women in uniform and see how close the radio is to their mouth in real life and (a bad example) movies involving cops or hell documentaries involving them would show  cops returning fire and also calling in for backup at the same time.

No matter how much you complain you should really think about how childish and ptw you look but it’s fair a city always outnumbers the police, right now pd has about 20-25 members maybe a little more and from the looks of things the server will have 250-350 and will go  out on a hunch and say 50-200 are illegal role players daily they’re already at a disadvantage how the hell is someone supposed to chase a subject and stop just stop in the middle of everything and update using /r? It’s not possible or fair. Those who complain about “24 hour t/s usage” or whatever the hell this kid said that’s a very ignorant statement, they’re multiple youtubers/streamers you can go and watch and unless they’re reporting into central for units to head into tac 1,2,3 or so they're just in the TS chilling, talking about random shit that happened to them in real life or whatever. Sure they’re is probably a few that mg but they’re are admins that run these factions and I’m sure they enforce the rules heavily.

To shorten this up, quit crying and look at it from both standpoints before you complain.

Buck (Premium Member) ·

We can say that mike2raw has approached this issue in a 'raw' manner. I agree with him though, you guys do look like you're trying to p2w when you complain about TS. On the other server, PD was held to a higher standard, so even a bad RPer would be treated better than he or she treated others.

Yeah what you said is a waste of a read and time.

Punishments for wanting to rp as an LEO? Before you join PD I'm sure it's required to spend most/ALL your ig time on that character so yeah that's invalid.

2. Not everyone wants to be a try hard role player, admins always say "as long as you follow "SERVER RULES" you're fine" "robo copping" isn't a break of server rules so that's invalid, Properly developing characters isn't a serve rule. So yeah that's invalid as well.

3. In PD, you're not just assigned a partner you have to request for one, and when no one is available let me guess you want them just to not rp? This isn't Alex Woodson's role play, and you're looking at this from a biased standpoint because you don't get your way.

4./bp? Yeah this isn't a cops and robbers server.

5. The academy isn't hard, just study/pay attention and you'll pass and they have special rules for those who have impaired hearing/issues with voice if not? then that's just the way it is stop complaining.

Just stop guy, I get it... it's your opinion and all but it's really ignorant and biased.
