Prison

No. It'd please me if times would be realistic in game terms as to actually use that time to play the game while it's also not feeling like a chore. SOmething in the middle. If your time will go out when you're off then it'll be an empty prison so even less reason to give people high amounts of hours. It'll be mini bans because : X gets arrested for 12 hours for assault. X has quit the game. You won't see him for 12 hours. If everyone will do that you'll have a few in the prison itself so the high times again make no sense fun wise. It's not a fun factor as described above.

Offer a solution then. 30 mins for murdering half of the city?

The prison time should pass when you're offline in my opinion.

JackH (Member) ·

Prison shouldn't pass when you're offline. You don't wanna be in prison? Think of how your character feels. There will be people in prison you can role play with. There will be prison gangs and just groups of prisoners separated by race  you can role play with. Nobody will be barred from role play. The only people who went to SACF on LSRP and didn't have any fun are the people who trolled and got segregated into another block, or people that didn't know how to create role play for themselves and decided they just wanted to sit in a cell and AFK for like 5 hours watching Youtube videos and shit.

Well, why can't we get to choose? If Bryar like long sentence time he can get that just by asking for it ? And other can get their hour or two ?

Well on LSRP there was a /releaseme feature that could have been used just for occasions like this. If you want to roleplay longer just don't type the command. Whenever you feel like going out, you type it. Simple. But this is no LSRP, so I think that the times have to be real somewhat and the time should decrease as long as you are in-game. DOC should be around too, but I feel like that can be done later on, for now we can use jail cells.

Prison is fine.  Network with people, workout, play games, gamble, fight, program with your race, etc.  It just requires more knowledge than other kinds of roleplay so people complain and cry about it because they won't put in any effort to learn how to play it properly.

Depends if they will neuter DOC like they did on LSRP, which wasn't fun at all. It's not worth having a DOC if they will not be viewed on the same level as a PD/SD. Correctional Officers are law enforcement officers and have the same power as a police officer or sheriffs deputy.

TeodoraMk (Premium Member) ·

@Yevtushenko what power are they supposed to have same like the PD? It's two different law enforcement agency factions. It's not like they DOC should be allowed to chase suspects or something.

Gary (Member) ·

I'd love to see a DOC faction on the server, though I don't think sentences should be too long, not saying it should be 5 minutes for murdering a civilian.

Well actually, that is very dependent on the state/country you're in.

Time shouldn't pass if you are offline, you SHOULD RP in prison, it's part of someone's development. If you commit a crime and get caught then what else do you expect? You don't want to spend your next 5-6 hours in jail for stealing vehicles all evening? Then simply plan an escape route, a way to defend yourself, set someone up. There are limitless ways to RP before and after getting caught. It's part of the excitment if your character has already been to jail  and to know that if he goes in again he will be in for a longer period, etc.

In real life the CDCR chases suspects and arrests high-risk warrant suspects. To have a successful DOC you will need a very active outside component or nobody will be interested.

I'd like to also suggest that if the prison does become a thing on the server, we don't use the cliche military base. Leave that a military base, develop a prison elsewhere - make it with a brand new exterior and interior. If it HAS to be the military base, don't recycle old shit. That'd be great.

I think that's why theirs a parole unit that's out on the streets.

If you want "logical" times - players should be in jail for weeks, months, or years at a time.  I've always been a fan of a couple weeks of a sentence, but your time goes down even if you aren't online.

Eh... I'm a fan of the longer 10+ sentences but weeks is a stretch.

How are you going to have a decent server when people aren't able to explore and create rp in the city for weeks lmao. The city would literally be empty. This is a damn game.

I totally agree that the sentence should go down while the character is offline and that sentences should be in weeks and not minutes. Your character lives when you're offline, there's no reason why it should only go down when you're online. It doesn't force people to roleplay but forces people to be active and when there's nobody to roleplay with or really no RP that fits your character well you have no other choice than AFK. The system on the server that shall not be named is really flawed and this really feels like admin jail. It is really unfair for characters that don't play in the right timezones either. The minute system is terrible because in a matter of hours the same people who committed murder or other felonies are back in town. Realistically, murder would be 25 years, life sentence or even death penalty. So it shouldn't be just a few hours. It should at least be a month of two, or a life sentence. If you think this is too long then, then you can name change or play as an alt while your character does his sentence ICly. There are really NO benefits to making the player have to be online for the sentence to go down. Likewise it looks really bad for a roleplay server to have prison sentences in the Penal Code written in minutes. The point is to punish the character not have the player do the time, otherwise let's just make admin jail and prison the same thing.

100%. I hope the development team understands that they have the ability and opportunity to collaborate with members of the player base that are extremely knowledgeable on this very subject and would be more than willing to help and create something that blows other servers prisons out of the water. If a prison and DOC faction is created down the line there needs to be a collaboration between the development team and those willing to give their time to make sure everything is perfect. The sky's the limit in this case.

You're supposed to roleplay in prison.

People shouldn't be able to skip what is a significant part of criminal roleplay just because they're too lazy or creatively bereft to find enjoyment in it.

You don't earn money while you're logged off, no matter how much you dislike script jobs, and you shouldn't be able to earn release from prison while offline either.

People in prison who don't like prison roleplay will at least keep SADOC and prison gangs entertained; even if characters are just idling in their cell, they can be targeted for extortion, cell searches, and all manner of other interactions that aren't possible if they're offline. I don't like being arrested much, but the roleplay keeps cop players entertained - and I'm fine with that because it's not all about one player's enjoyment over everyone else's. Yet whenever prison comes up, this principle is abandoned and people speak with such entitlement.

Here's my suggestion to tide both sides over:

If you're in-game, prison time is cut in half. You can wait out the full sentence out-of-game.

Wow, lol. The problem with prison is not the lenghty sentences. It's that we have people who afk because they don't know how to roleplay in prison. First of, prison roleplay is beautiful when done right, but nobody is interested in it because they are too busy trying to be the street criminal. To be honest, I think that the time should reflect something realistic as possible, but it shouldn't feel like a pain either. From my experience, 8hrs was the max time that you could get for a violent crime such as manslaughter, murder, etc (LS-RP). I think that we should take a vote along the server until we find a prison system that works for everyone. That way noone feels left out.

Perhaps whilst the server is still new, start off with a humble county jail with mild sentencing and once the player base rises introduce an advanced correctional facility.

This.

I agree with this idea for the start. It would be dope.

Look at it this way: there's an incentive to get on the server to RP, but you can also wait your sentence out. That way people not 100% serious about the sentence can go play another game while the hardcore roleplayers can get on and do their thing. This way there isn't as much trolls in-game and the prison population is mostly formed up of people who care about the environment or want to make the effort to. Very hardcore idling rules should be enforced, however, to discourage people from idling out their sentence with a reduced sentence.
