Yes, why not make them 1 minute long too like in Cops n' Robbers servers...

Prison sentence should be in days not in hours. You shouldn't be required to be in-game either.

Then what appropriate time do you suggest to not make it boring? I think 1 hour or even 1hr 30 mins is an appropriate enough time for light sentences, e.g. Stealing vehicles, pursuits, caught with drugs, etc. Maybe if someone killed a bunch of people it should be 3-4 hours at maximum. Again, it's a balance of fun and avoiding people going AFK the entire time because of diabolical prison times. Again, fun should always come first instead of realism in a game.

That's overkill. It should never be days. Although I do agree that prison time should decrease if you're offline as well.

You think it's appropriate for people to leave prison for murder in a matter of hours or in a day or two? I believe people should have long prison sentences by that I mean minimum of three days and maximum a month.

Wait, you want people wait a month before they get out of prison? Like, an actual month? 744 Hours?

If it's a jail, then people can pass like an hour or so for a small crime. But if it's a felony and they are taken to prison, they can pass a long while there if the roleplay quality in prison is good and there is a professional and fun script.

If it's a misdemeanor few days, and if it's a felony a week to maximum of a month for few crimes a month yes.

What are you retarded? It's more fun when the punishment is longer and risky. That way, you'll feel it when you commit a crime, you'd actaully feel it. It's good shit, and makes things more fun and interesting. It makes people think before they do anything.

I agree with you that it does make it way more exciting and adrenaline rushing for sure. But a week to a month sat in prison? I don't think anyone will log back on that character after that happens, or will instantly buy a name change. I appreciate your idea of realism but again, fun > realism.

Why do you focus on the month sentence? It's a rare sentence only for few crimes, such as murder of a LEO, and other crimes that are pretty serious it's up to the owners to choose which crimes for that month sentence.

I hope we stick with my idea it's the best one actaully. I said my piece.

I think it's a better idea to role play the correctional facility as a county jail that's being ran by a San Fierro Sheriff's Department faction instead of a state prison ran by a Department of Corrections faction. In real life the San Francisco Sheriff's Department primary role is to operate the jails and handle parole/release programs, not policing the streets.

The building, location, intake, and yard in-game make it look more like a county jail than a state prison. It's going to make it easier for players to role play story-wise things like their case being pending, appealing cases, being found innocent, getting out on bail. It's a better fit for the "short stint" times players choose to role play most of the time. It also makes sense why everyone in it is from the same city.

Plus, joining an SFSD type of faction would be more appealing than joining a DOC type of faction. SFSD would have more options to perform duties like city hall security or courtroom security, which a DOC faction wouldn't make sense to do. They'll be better at filling empty roles on the server. And it's a unique idea not seen on many servers.

Days to weeks or months, life sentence for 1st degree murder, the prison time goes down while offline so people can hop on an alt, namechange/CK if they really don't want to RP in prison etc (instead of going AFK). 1 hour maximum is a complete joke, you'd see the same criminals back in town each hour or so

Good then, they can namechange. Realistically their character wouldn't be seen for years

I agree with @Simeon. If  we're going to do this, we need to do this right. Otherwise, there's no point in doing it at all. The San Fierro Sheriff's Department should be in control of the county jail system, not the San Andreas Department of Corrections.

Quote

San Francisco County Jails are operated by the Sheriff's Department Custody Division of the City and County of San Francisco. The system comprises eight jails, with approximately 55,000 annual bookings administered by 800 deputy sheriffs.[1]

Even in cities such as Los Angeles, it's the same thing.

Quote

With 17,694 employees, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, officially the County of Los Angeles Sheriff's Department, is the nation's largest Sheriff's Department. The Department's three main responsibilities entail providing patrol services for 153 unincorporated communities of Los Angeles County, California and 42 cities,[2] providing courthouse security for the Superior Court of Los Angeles County, and the housing and transportation of inmates within the county jail system.

Quote

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department operates the largest jail system in the world. The Los Angeles County Jail provides short-term incarceration services for all of the County (including cities like Los Angeles, Glendale, Burbank, and Long Beach which have their own police departments). The Men's Central Jail (MCJ) and Twin Towers Correctional Facility (TTCF) are located in a dense cluster northeast of Union Station that is next to the station's rail yard. The North County Correctional Facility (NCCF) is the largest of the four jail facilities located at the Pitchess Detention Center in Castaic, California. The L.A. County women's jail, called the Century Regional Detention Facility or the Lynwood Jail, is located in Lynwood, California.

The correctional facility looks like more of a county jail than a state prison to me.

I agree with @Capodecina and @Neaksy about sentences, too. A few hours should be the minimum for misdemeanors, while three days should be the maximum, depending on the crime. For felonies, three days should be the minimum, while a month should be the maximum, again, depending on the crime. People need to understand when they choose for their character to commit a crime, they aren't the only ones who will be effected. It's not fair to cancel out role play opportunities for others because of your selfishness.

This will tie into story-wise things like proper investigations (f.e. the collection of evidence in order to support an arrest, a suspect being identified) being conducted,  the arrested suspect being taken into custody until it's time for court, the prosecution of a criminal defendant by a district attorney, preliminary hearings in order to warrant trial, arraignment by a judge, pretrial detention and/or bail, plea bargaining, trial, sentencing, and appeals. If your character committed a felony, this should be mandatory.

Akeeb (Member) ·

Also, after an arrest, a criminal suspect is usually taken into police custody and "booked," or "processed." During booking, a police officer typically takes the criminal suspect's personal information; records information about the alleged crime; performs a record search of the suspect's criminal background; fingerprints, photographs, and searches the suspect; confiscates any personal property carried by the suspect (i.e., keys, purse); and places the suspect in a police station holding cell or local jail.

It shouldn't be just "/jail ID time" like in the preview.

Initially I planned on staying fairly neutral when it comes to this public discussion in particular, but seriously? Some of the replies here just blow me away, I don't even know if you guys are joking. This is a game, one that's based in a fictional universe, leave your "but the real life equivalent is like so-and-so" postcards at the door.

Main reason why we're all here in the first place is to have fun, no way in hell is anyone gonna be forced to spend weeks or months in prison, in any server, that's just bullocks. If you think otherwise you can go ahead and create your own community, see what happens when you enforce a month-long sentence for felonies.

Obviously, all input will be taken into consideration (some of the stuff that was written here was actually good) by the decision-makers (not me), but here's a tip for all of you dudes with strong and rather radical opinions regarding prison -- maybe, just maybe, you are wrong.

i suggest felonies to take up to 5 years in prison, including life sentences lmao

Capodecina (Member) ·

I'd say at least a week for a felony. For instance, if someone gets booked in for Murder on a LEO that person should stay in prison for at least a week, to be honest. It's totally unrealistic if that person goes out of prison the same day or the next day and goes back to roleplay with his gang. That's a no-no.

Plus, the prison sentence should go down automatically without having that person in-game. For the time being, he/she could do whatever the fuck. Play on some other character, do some push-ups, go study, or whatever. Think about it, this is the best way to do it because it makes things interesting and risky.

Gang Mentality (Premium Member) ·

Make the initial sentencing be hours, not weeks. If one wants to spend more time in prison for "realistic" reasons then they can simply request more time, it's totally up to them. I ain't got time to sit in front of a PC looking at a wall for a week as if I'm locked up in real life.
