Usage of dashes and multiple dots;

I've seen many people use (..-), (-..), (..), (--.) and so on. I'll give examples on how to use 'em properly.

Bad example: You should have called me..-

Good example: You should have called me...

Bad example: You should have called-- Oh, actually-..

Good example: You should have called me— Oh, actually... (To type the double dash, you need to use a combination of keys: Alt 0151)

You may want to add the following explanation:

  • The em dash (—) is used to convey stutter/stammering speech, being interrupted while speaking, or a sudden stop. The em dash is also used in narration as an alternative to parentheses, to note something in-between a sentence. Using -- is correct although — is preferred.
  • The ellipsis (...) is used to convey a more dramatic and pronounced pause, or a hesitation, such as a character revealing or confessing to something important. It is for slower paced moments, while the em dash is for brutal interruptions in speech.

Either way, as you've mentioned you cannot use both at the same time like -.. or .. as it's improper grammar. Helpful guide nonetheless!

Everybody made mistakes like those at begun. By the time passing that will be adjusted to the correct way. Usually those mistakes was made by the people who's not going to school. Almost in every country is learning this language.

I would advise to use the entire for of the sentence without using the short form.

An good example which was not mentioned above:

Bad example: That is Patrick/Patricks house

Right example: That is Patrick's house.

[Where/were]

Where - mention a place - Example: Where you at?

Were - is the past form of was for 2nd person (you). You were fat in childhood.
