A year difference?

I mean most gang/mob activity was around the 60-80's I'm all for the 2017 era but it gets quite boring (NOT SAYING AN ERA MAKES A BIG IMPACT) but I think something along the lines of 80's/90's would add just that bit more uniqueness to this server also add a bit more fun to peoples role playing experience, let me know what you all think I just thought I'd put it out there. 

A lot of people who I think play here weren’t around in the 80s/90s to feel its culture so it would be unjoyable for them.

Gangs are still a thing (idk why tho) in 2017 though. Mobs on the other hand, I'm not sure. But San Fierro is a fictional city in a fictional state. We can be different than the rest of the world. Maybe Mobs are still roaming around SA. Go nuts (but realistic). 

I would like 80s/90s RP but BA-RP isn't going to be the server for it. This would be too controversial. Many players have already made their characters and factions with the idea that the server takes place in our time.

I also think it's too late, the server has gained too many members who come from various servers and they didn't have the intention of roleplaying in the past, neither would they be prepared for pre-2000s era RP, resulting in a lot of anachronical issues in people's roleplay—it would be very easy for people to mention objects, celebrities, events, or elements of popular culture that would not exist at the time the server would take place—and since very few of us would have experience or knowledge for this roleplay, it would be quite difficult, let alone unnecessary. There would be more downsides than benefits.

Keep in mind that BA-RP will take place in a fictional world where everything is an exaggeration or extreme caricature of America. It makes perfect sense for San Andreas to have more gang problems than real-life California have. We are roleplaying in a fictional universe and BA-RP's timeline can be different from our own.

No, sorry. I rather want BARP to stay in our time. 

It would be interesting but you'd constantly be restraining yourself from making references to the present, making it a real pain to roleplay in general. Younger players would also be a little clueless as to what tech was used back in those days -- pagers, walkman, VHS tapes, floppy disks, dial-up modems, etc.

Appreciate the feedback I guess it would be better to stay in present time but the 90's era was pretty similar to the present also the late 80's. Just a suggestion anyway like i said thanks for the feedback appreciated.

I think it would be dope af to RP back in the 80s and 90s thats when bangin was hard af anyways. 

I don't understand the whole "that's when mobs/mafia/whatever's activity was rife!" opinion with regards to going back pre-2000s. It's so irrelevant unless you're mirroring exactly what they did. It's all what you make it.

We're going to keep the server in the modern day period due to the fact that's what most players are interested in and that is how the server's systems have been designed and developed.
