Advertisements

I'm suggesting that we change it so advertisements don't instantly pop up in the chat. That is kind of realistic since you either get ads from your phone or newspapers. Maybe change it so you have to open up your phone or some other type of system.

Let there be a fictional app called NewsPlus. You can /tognews and it'll say: "NewsPlus is running in the background! Be sure to check the advertisements that pop up!". Add a textdraw where you can register for a small fee and display various ads with various prices. On togging it again it should say: "Thanks for using NewsPlus! Shutting down now!" and the player won't receive ads no more. It's annoying as hell when you're trying to rp and five ads pop up in your screen.

It would be cool to have server sided billboards for your business that you could apply for.

This idea would be good. Right now I'm just asking for other peoples opinions on this topic.

This tbh. Property/vehicle ads would only be in the Classifieds section, advertisements for businesses would be on billboards all over the city with a fee in the few hundred/thousand per week or something, with 0.3.8 custom billboards could be added all over even as far as on benches and bus stop shelters. Hopefully we also have news outlets on BA-RP to have advertisements on them. I never liked the idea of /ad, we have a lot of other alternatives now.

If ads do pop up in chat, for the love of god please let us toggle them. I don't give a shit if the likelihood of only 50, 40, or even 30 percent of the server will only see them, they shouldn't be forced upon us. We don't see every car sale ad, escort ad, club ad, etu plastered to our face irl, do we?

Daniel_Faraci (Member) ·

We should be able to toggle the ads off. However, an alternative should be found to make sure that ads are seen as often as they used to be.

We can just keep the ads in chat and let us be able to toggle them off and on.

Billboards?

Instead of having players repetitively check on Classifieds, for properties, employment, vehicles, etc - a billboard system could really bring something new to the table. A widespread system like this enhances the environment around the city, and actually attract players to immerse themselves. With the new 0.3.8 updates, I don't think there's a big gap on what's possible and what isn't nowadays, so I believe this is one of the many features the update has to offer. Of course if the development team wants to improve or spread the system, the could push phone notifications, as mentioned above.

If possible, we can have posters for small ads like selling/buying cars, houses, businesses bc billboards usually only advertise big businesses and stuff...

I don't think a billboard system would work well in practice. People making advertisements for their business usually want to let people know that "today, at X time, at X location, this business is open". They don't plan those openings far in advance every time. Businesses don't open every day in-game either. What if I really want to go to a club one night but I miss it because I didn't see the billboard for it because I'm in a different part of the city? Who benefits from that happening? There's different platforms my character can learn about it from, like an internet page, radio ad, or a flyer being passed out. Instead of having only one specific advertisement platform, or ten different advertisement platforms, we can just have a combined one that lets someone role play the information how they see fit.

I'm in favor of having ads pop up in the chat, but just once as long as you're online, and with the ability to toggle them off. I'm okay with knowing that X bar is open for business tonight, but I don't need to see it every five minutes. And if you disable advertisements, there should be a way to still view them in a box you can bring up.

In-game advertisements need to be "in your face" in order for the system to work. For example, even though I'm interested in buying a certain vehicle or house, that doesn't mean that I'll be driving to every billboard/poster location, or opening an advertisement page box every five minutes to look for updates. People are also in-game for a limited amount of time. If a player doesn't see an advertisement instantly, the person who made the advertisement might log off by the time anyone notices it.
