I'm suggesting that if a player donates a certain amount of money towards the server, they get their own skin. I'm not sure if you get me, but like if someone purchases a gold donator, for example, they can send in their requested skin which would be unique and only their player would have. I'm not sure if you understand me but it makes sense to me.
Personal Skin Suggestion
Started by Snow,
I've seen this done on a different platform (Garrysmod) and it just bloats content packs and makes people donate for the wrong reasons. I'm not really into it, especially with the server's population. It'd inundate the server with models.
Yes, that would be nice.
No. Get a skin mod for yourself. There should be faction modpacks but not personal skins, not at all.
Not going to lie that's pretty dope and would make who ever the money goes to filthy fucking rich.

I could see this working, having specific modpacks added so that factions have their own unique skins, it would be awesome for biker factions, crips and bloods. But other then that, the paying for skin idea is utter craziness.
If you can also get a private skin through the merit system, sure. Skins should also be vetted to ensure they're well rigged and low poly.
Honestly not a bad idea. Wouldn't mind seeing something like this.
Already taken into consideration by the admin and modding team. To quote tw1ster:
QuoteHaving a skin placed into the server for "premium" users is a topic for conversation when we roll out donator packages. There would have to be strict criteria to meet as well so it fits the theme.
I like this - provides an incentive to donate and is a nice way of thanking donators, whilst also not giving them any tangible benefit over other players.
Will help the community as well.
I'd rather see premium skins/staff skins or such used for special events, not on a daily basis.
It would help keep the server up and running, I'm for it.

Totally would. It would bring alot more donations in, everyone would want to get their own personal skin and it would be a unique thing as no other server in SAMP has this. It would keep the server running and also players would enjoy having their own personal skin rather than using the /describe command all the time to see what someone’s dressed in.
I don't think it would work on a roleplay server. It works on other games because they don't have low poly/theme requirements.
It would create a lot of issues between donators and the staff, because people would donate their own money, they'd want their specific skin added, sometimes that they would have made themselves, and if they don't fit the theme and the staff rejects their skin, they would get pissed off for wasting their time and money and blame the staff. The requirements would be arbitrary.
Also, the SA-MP developers forbid copyrighted skins (from other games or mods), it would be a risk that somebody, without the staff knowing, uploads a skin that is in fact copyrighted (uses textures or models from another source without permission), or even a skin that was stolen from another user or another mod. It would be hard to detect those instances and enforce rules against copyrighted material.
Also this also depends on whether you can add a custom server-sided skin in real-time, or you have to restart the server to add the new skins. I assume you have to restart the server.
I would rather have hundreds of new skins that people can choose from with the new 0.3.8 update. This would bring too many issues to the table.

all of the issues you mentioned can be easily mitigated by outlining skin requirements on the donation page. or heck, actually utilise the large modding team and have players be able to request the creation of a mod as opposed to submitting one

It would be quite a process to have a staff team (a very reduced staff team at that since not everybody has the possibility to examine DFFs and TXDs) inspect all skins one by one to make sure they fit the requirements, also it's very subjective and it's impossible to have objective requirements, even if a skin meets requirements doesn't mean it isn't terrible, it would depend on the person who reviews said skins to make a decision who would go against the judgement of the management.
Only a minority of people here make their own original skins, most people download them for personal use, giving a custom skin feature to everybody would be a liability
Add more skins to the server so people have plenty of choice instead
As for people paying to have modders make custom skins just for them to submit to the server, that's just way too far-fetched.

i mean there's an entire team dedicated to the handling of server modifications and it doesn't take long to gauge the quality of skins at all, not to mention that there won't even be that many to handle as not everyone is going to buy the most expensive premium package.
oh and yes, you're completely right about the quality of skins being subjective, but that also applies to skins which aren't private so your point cuts both ways as it would be the same people assessing them.

Yes but the BA-RP modders in charge of adding skins for the whole server face criticism from both the rest of the staff team and the entire community. If a skin gets some backlash they'll edit them to please the vocal group of people to please a majority. This would not happen if people were allowed to upload their own skins or even if that same modder team had to make a custom skin for the donator or whatever you're suggesting, they wouldn't consult with the community for an individual skin that only one player would benefit from.
I see too many issues with this tbh

As there are a lot of issues, and I do agree to a certain degree about what you said, but same goes for what Michael said, it's a two way street, and anything new being put into the actual gamemode can result in unhappiness of some people, not everyone can be happy. But just to add onto the subject, the current skins SAMP has, the original ones are not up to standards aswell, and to re-create each, and to make even more skins for people to have more choices, that would require for the modding team to make the current skin list changes, and to add on more skins so people have a variety of choices. Which is also not really that easy and it would also mean all of what you just said for donator skins, same criticism, same unhappiness of some individuals. Both ways are not easy or practical, but there must be a middle ground and a solution for all this to benefit both statements and form it into just one. But than again this would mean a lot of cluster F any way you try to make it work.
