San Fierro, the home of the San Fierro 69ers, Avispa Country Club and the iconic Gant Bridge; the city is also home to several infamous criminal organisations, most notably those of Asian and Hispanic descent. In 1989, San Fierro was the victim of a destructive earthquake which left several neighbourhoods, as well as Garver Bridge in ruins; damage is still visible in parts of the city, including the Doherty area. San Fierro is also known for its large LGBT community in King's, sometimes referred to as the epitome of nightlife.
Whether the reason is sports, nightlife, culture or sightseeing, San Fierro is undoubtedly one of the most popular cities to visit. Just a short distance away from Las Venturas and a stones throw away from the iconic Mount Chilliad in Whetstone, there's something for everybody in and around the city. It is because of the city's high media coverage and reputation that men and women, from all aspects of life have found their way into the beautiful landscape that is San Fierro. And where there is media coverage, there is money - where there is money, there is crime. "There's no such thing as good or bad money, there's just money".
It is in the Hashbury district where a large criminal organisation, recently dubbed "The Hashbury Mob" has left its mark. Throughout the mid-2000s, when the city was getting back on its feet after the catastrophic 1989 earthquake, that infamous figures of the Los Santos Irish-American mob migrated to San Fierro, and took advantage of the now reformed city, from extortion to racketeering, and from armed robbery to murder - where there was money to be made, it was.
Raymond Ward, an influential figure in the underworld took charge of the operation, primarily based in Garcia in the 2000s. Alongside Ward was Edmond Hanegan and trusted associate James Keane. In 2005, Hanegan and Keane were arrested, along with two other unnamed associates after an armed robbery at a local nightclub went wrong. Hanegan and Keane received a sentence of eleven years in a state penitentiary for armed robbery and assault with a deadly weapon. The incident sparked outrage within the city, and saw local law enforcement crack down on organised crime - countless arrests were made, but consequently, the results were minimal.
In 2011, James Keane was stabbed to death by an African-American inmate in a state penitentiary. The incident caused a full-scale war, both inside and outside of the prison's walls. White and black inmates were at each other's throats behind bars, whilst shootings were carried out on the streets. There is no denying that neither side were victorious in this bloodbath of a war, both sides having taken significant damage to their numbers, and to their profits. It wasn't until May 2012 that things came to an apparent standstill. Both law enforcement and organise crime experts are still unsure of why both sides seemingly ceased fire.
Edmond Hanegan was released from what had now become his second home in 2015, just two years after long-time associate Raymond Ward had reported to have relocated the organisation's "base of operations" in the Hashbury district. According to sources in the media, Hanegan had hoped to expand the operation into the King's district, and had attempted to take over local nightclubs. He was arrested again for assaulting Harold Keaton, a local nightlife mogul, after publicly proclaiming that Hanegan was a homosexual. Members of the LGBT community in the district were outraged, and the attack attracted media attention nationwide.
It is assumed that Ward's organisation is still at large in the Hashbury district and has since expanded its business to other local districts, including Downtown San Fierro. It has been rumoured that the organisation has a hand in the Avispa Country Club, but management of the facility have denied this on several occasions.
Little is known about Raymond Ward, his associates or the Hashbury Mob's involvement in organised crime since Edmond Hanegan's arrest in 2015. Some believe that the organisation ceases to exist, whereas several experts have claimed that the mob is still very much alive.
