Does anyone know when the server is going to open?

No one knows.
They haven't announced a launch date yet. It will most probably be in the first quarter of 2018. I don't see it opening until the end of the year because I'm pretty sure it wouldn't create a huge impact if they opened it during the Christmas and New Year holidays.
As aforementioned, there is no set release date. We had our first beta testing phase on the 26th of November, and the next beta testing phase is anticipated sometime shortly, either before the end of December or in the beginning of the new year, though this is not confirmed. The next testing phase is targeted at members who have donated to the server, in order to aid its growth and development.
From what I gathered from the very brief beta testing experience on the 26th of November, the server had its foundations and its backbone, but still required quite a bit of development before being considered worthy of a full release. As such, depending on the speed of the growing team of developers, I anticipate its full public release to be anywhere between a month to six months. From what I know, nor DamianC or Rehasher would be happy to release a defunct server, so it will take some time, some elbow grease, and some hard work, dedication and patience before it will see public release.
