Bospy, going into great detail with murder RP doesn't include planning one. In my view, it includes RPing disgusting details too much during the murder itself. I have seen people who spend 30 minutes to RP dismemberment of the bodies into great detail which is disgusting.
I am not necessarily bothered by these things, I know when to quit a game, so don't worry about me. It comes down to the kind of psychopaths who really have to RP some details, it's not healthy.
I am only stating my opinion in regards to drugs. Name them as you wish, I don't care. My opinion won't change much anyway, that I can assure you of, so it won't hurt your goal.
If it annoys you being called an elitist, then consider not being one and you will do just fine. Let's stop derailing the topic, it's about drugs.
That's a good clarification. I'm don't enjoy the gory details as well, and there is some concern regarding someone who spends that amount of time going into that much detail. There's an argument against that, and I can see it. But in terms of drugs - how does that match up? It's confusing, because I personally consider drugs much lower on the totem pole. I'm sure nobody gets excitement over roleplaying the long-term effects of meth use - someone might get excitement over the former, though, which is always of a concern, but too rare to really have too much of a large effect.
I'd like to clarify for the "realism vs other" crowd - this is not a suggestion demanding people conform to some arbitrary roleplay standard. So long as you follow the rules, there is no quarrel. I have no issues with what you want to RP. If you buy meth and take it and don't RP some very detailed side effect, nobody here wants you to do it forcefully. At the same time, most of us advocating for the name change only want to use the name of the drug to build our character. Sometimes, it doesn't even include detail of taking the drug. Nobody is going to roleplay the thorough process of shooting up in public. Nobody is lording power here and saying that because you don't like the idea you are somehow lesser or a worse roleplayer. Roleplay is an incredibly wide margin. I just want a balance between gameiness and fun, and I feel that real drug names is a fine balance. If I was advocating a very realistic solution, maybe I WOULD demand people RP the effects in detail. But I'm not, and that's not even what I want. I want there to be a balance, like I said.
Think about it this way: who's going to get enjoyment out of spending thirty minutes detailing the effects of meth on their health to you during a robbery? The most roleplay they will do is "/me is tweaked out and jittery". That provides you a background for why they're robbing you. And if there was some fictional analogue to a real life drug, called "crank", for example, how does naming it that change the basis of the roleplay? It really doesn't. So why spend time coming up with names? It's redundant, we already have them. And frankly, if somebody spent thirty minutes describing how meth takes a toll on their body to you during a robbery, you should be able to report them - or, at the very least, a police officer or bystander would note the instrument of the robbery, or even, really, if it makes you uncomfortable - just ask them not to describe it at all.
