Regular Drug Names

Bospy, going into great detail with murder RP doesn't include planning one. In my view, it includes RPing disgusting details too much during the murder itself. I have seen people who spend 30 minutes to RP dismemberment of the bodies into great detail which is disgusting.

I am not necessarily bothered by these things, I know when to quit a game, so don't worry about me. It comes down to the kind of psychopaths who really have to RP some details, it's not healthy.

I am only stating my opinion in regards to drugs. Name them as you wish, I don't care. My opinion won't change much anyway, that I can assure you of, so it won't hurt your goal.

If it annoys you being called an elitist, then consider not being one and you will do just fine. Let's stop derailing the topic, it's about drugs.

I don't roleplay dismemberment and stuff in detail like that, but I don't think that it makes them a psychopath for doing it.  It's just a game. There's literally a torture scene in GTA V.  Are people psychopaths for playing that scene?  What about the scene from MW2 when you're at the airport?  It's not like this is making them go out and kill people in real life.

I realize you're only stating your opinion, but you had said that you didn't say anything about banning them, when it looked to me like you did.

I'm not an elitist.  I don't think I'm better or superior than you in general or at anything specific.  I don't know why you would think I am.  Not everyone who disagrees with you is an elitist.

That's a good clarification. I'm don't enjoy the gory details as well, and there is some concern regarding someone who spends that amount of time going into that much detail. There's an argument against that, and I can see it. But in terms of drugs - how does that match up? It's confusing, because I personally consider drugs much lower on the totem pole. I'm sure nobody gets excitement over roleplaying the long-term effects of meth use - someone might get excitement over the former, though, which is always of a concern, but too rare to really have too much of a large effect.

I'd like to clarify for the "realism vs other" crowd - this is not a suggestion demanding people conform to some arbitrary roleplay standard. So long as you follow the rules, there is no quarrel. I have no issues with what you want to RP. If you buy meth and take it and don't RP some very detailed side effect, nobody here wants you to do it forcefully. At the same time, most of us advocating for the name change only want to use the name of the drug to build our character. Sometimes, it doesn't even include detail of taking the drug. Nobody is going to roleplay the thorough process of shooting up in public. Nobody is lording power here and saying that because you don't like the idea you are somehow lesser or a worse roleplayer. Roleplay is an incredibly wide margin. I just want a balance between gameiness and fun, and I feel that real drug names is a fine balance. If I was advocating a very realistic solution, maybe I WOULD demand people RP the effects in detail. But I'm not, and that's not even what I want. I want there to be a balance, like I said.

Think about it this way: who's going to get enjoyment out of spending thirty minutes detailing the effects of meth on their health to you during a robbery? The most roleplay they will do is "/me is tweaked out and jittery". That provides you a background for why they're robbing you. And if there was some fictional analogue to a real life drug, called "crank", for example, how does naming it that change the basis of the roleplay? It really doesn't. So why spend time coming up with names? It's redundant, we already have them. And frankly, if somebody spent thirty minutes describing how meth takes a toll on their body to you during a robbery, you should be able to report them - or, at the very least, a police officer or bystander would note the instrument of the robbery, or even, really, if it makes you uncomfortable - just ask them not to describe it at all.

Gonna support this, but, why can’t we just have real life drugs? If you’re “offended” by the drugs on a roleplay server on a videogame that condones sex, drugs, and murder, then you need to kick rocks. And like I said earlier, if we’re going to have to roleplay “zoom zooms” then are we gonna have to roleplay the corny ass Grove Street Families and Ballas, because Crips and Bloods wouldn’t exist? Smh.

EDIT:

If you don’t want to roleplay drugs, murder, or whatever than where will the server go next? Some goofy DamianC’s Cops N Robbers or some RPG called “dynamic roleplay” where there’ll be zoom zooms and toilet cleaners?

So it comes down to your (and others) feelings. It's interesting that you're trying to appeal to emotion rather then actually coming up with a legitimate reason why drugs shouldn't be called their real life counterpart. I could go into detail on why they should be but it's obvious from your earlier replies you seem to be confused on what a forum is for.

If calling cocaine cocaine makes someone emotionally uncomfortable than they are playing the wrong game.

"I honestly think that some things are better out of the game. For the ones that disagree, no offense but it's honestly not normal."

Role playing a reality of life is not normal? Sign me up to the alternate universe where drug use and murder is not normal.

And cut calling people an elitist for wanting realism, it's lazy and attacks the character of a person rather than their thoughts.

I'll be honest if something being called it's real name seems unsettling to you, you shouldn't be playing on a roleplay server of this nature anyways. Just because you have the correct name for heroin doesn't mean you are glorifying the use of the drug out of game, and for people to think that is kinda stupid.

Can I have a tl;dr on this thread?

Staff want to use made up GTA drugs rather than real life counterparts. Suggestion is to scrap that and use real life names or allow for real life nicknames.

In that case, yeah. I'd rather use the normal names/nicknames for drugs.

I highly support the idea of using real life official names for all types of narcotics.

I prefer real life names as players are more likely to be able to research what the drug does and most will come to the server with some understanding of how it works.

Given the 'update' about drug names, it sounds to me like they want to operate a casual roleplay server that panders to the kind of people that you would typically find occupying Verona Mall on LS-RP - as opposed to an actual roleplay server (or as DamianC says; "stray away from a simulation").

As I said before I knew it was going to be a controversial move but it's a step in where I'm taking this server. What you're saying is not incorrect at all, Bospy, and I'm sure you and many others are able to keep a sane head on yourself when around real drug names. I'm uncomfortable with the culture it invites and the cloud it puts over a server.

And you'll be the first one ingame, I'm sure!

But you are okay with gang violence, robberies, murder, and extortion?

I'm fully aware that the aspect of hardcore drugs make people uncomfortable and I get it. I'm also aware that this is Rehasher and yours project and I respect that however isn't the point of this server to pander to the majority of the playerbase and provide for what they want and need? From a upper managements perspective I'd want to make sure that more than half of the playerbase is going to be pleased with all the work that I and the development team have been doing. It basically comes down to is this server meant for Damian or the playerbase who have been backing it since It's conception. It's Bay Area Roleplay and this will prove to be a hindrance for those like myself who want to really immerse themselves because that's what is fun to us. If people didn't want to immerse them selves in a pseudo-reality simulation then the whole Roleplay category wouldn't be a thing for SA:MP.

Not to sound rude but...no, not at all. Any game and or server obviously listens to their players feedback but at the same time a real leader makes decisions that's not always going to be favorable because they have an actual vision in mind for their server. If any server just does what the majority wants you end up with a server with no vision and literally no one enjoying it.

If a server does what the majority wants the majority of the players will it enjoy it. From what you've stated in different threads about this topic your main reason for not wanting real drug names is because you don't like the type of baggage or "cloud" that comes with it and you think It'll end up harming the server in some way. And from the looks of it a lot of people disagree with you. At the end of the day you're going to do whatever you want but just because you say something's good for the server It doesn't mean it will be.
