There's nothing wrong with spending a couple years, and to be specific, two months in county jail while your criminal case is being processed before eventually being hauled off to one of San Andreas' state prisons so your character can be rehabilitated for the next 12 years (real life years). In total, that's what? 12 years (144 months) off the streets? The world isn't going to come to an end.
Why should I sacrifice my realism and immersion just because you don't want to role play prison for more than a week?
The quote in the post I made above should clear up what I meant... Several days for a misdemeanors that aren't even in serious? Hell no. A couple hours for vandalism, disorderly conduct, and "disturbing the peace." Serious misdemeanors such as grand theft auto and burglary? 2-4 days in between jail, court, and prison. I wouldn't expect anyone to spend a week in prison over getting caught with dope... That's light. I'm talking about for felonies (murder, manslaughter, rape, etcetera) because that can tie into investigations.
I still don't support this suggestion because it will immediately turn people away from prison roleplay rather than incentivize them. In fact, people might even turn away from the server in general if it means they need to wait 4 days for their character to get released because they stole a car. I'd say 4 days for a murder is decent, but for grand theft auto? Not ideal. There simply isn't infrastructure in place to have a fully functional jail, court, and prison at the same time.
Yeah I'm pretty much with Bospy. Four of five days for murder is what we should be going for. GTA? I'd say a day, max. If people enjoy prison, they'll stay for longer.

I can settle with that... It's better than 10 hours for a double homicide. There should be enough room for players to roleplay jail, court, prison and police officers to roleplay investigations, the criminal justice system, etcetera.

Only thing is... We should establish something that brings all characters together so in character sentences wouldn't be all over the place? One player could roleplay their character serving 45 year sentence for a homicide, while the other player could roleplay their character serving a five day sentence. It breaks immersion.
In the end there isn't a lot you can do. People will roleplay whatever they wanna roleplay. Setting OOC times equating to IC times or anything like that just wouldn't work.
If in character prison sentences didn't last hours and days, and instead would be in years/life sentence/death penalty (for the most horrible crimes) then having a proper criminal justice process with a fair trial would work fine and there would be a point having them. However, there would have to be an active Department of Justice for this to work properly. I'm sure it could be simplified since this is a game while introducing more realistic elements than most servers who just consider you guilty until proven innocent and send you to prison without any due process of law.
The issue with that is that it's demotivating. People legitimately would just CK a character instead of waiting the 3 weeks for him to get out of prison. You have to be practical about shit like this and think about what the rest of the playerbase would want to do.

How did 2 days in between jail and court, along with 5-12 days in prison, turn into 3 weeks?
Never mind that... Sentences in character should make sense, otherwise, what's the point of even worrying about them out of character? Sentenced to four days in prison for first degree murder. Gets out. Rinses and repeat. Just limiting other forms of roleplay like LS-RP did such as investigations, trial, witnesses, etcetera and encouraging players not to worry about getting locked up because they'll be given a slap on the wrist. I don't understand the pessimistim surrounding the establishment of having a proper criminal justice system.
I understand, you want it to be realistic but this is going too far. Look, if you are gonna use "days" instead hours. Then you should let the players be able to serve their time while being offline.

Not sure if this is response to me, but I have said about 6 times that I want times to go down while people are offline.
Prison times in days and it goes down while offline.
1st degree murder should be a life sentence. Manslaughter, a few weeks. Evading, several days. Etc
From what I've gathered name-changes will be free or earned through activity so there's no excuse for prison times not to be days. Nobody would realistically be back after a few hours after being imprisoned for things like murder (99% of the time a life sentence or decades). While your character serves the sentence you can hop on an alt or namechange and NC back once the character's time is over or whatever, the point being to keep the character out of town for long enough so people cant just go to prison every day or every week for severe crimes, while not making it so the player is punished the same way they would be with an admin jail
Also since DOC won't exist until later on eventually there's no point forcing players to sit through hours long sentences alone in an environment that's not even properly organized
I'm not fond of life sentences. Stuff like that seems an awful lot like forced CKs which I don't think anyone actually wants.
well yeah in real-life you're sentenced for life then you're done for, then again afaik namechanges will be free and if you really want to RP in prison indefinitely then you don't have to CK, if you commit a 1st degree murder i doubt you'd ever see the outside world ever again unless you break out.

Yeah, true. But like I've said earlier, you have to think about the average player. Do you think the average player would like having to CK if they get a life sentence and don't want to roleplay in prison? Probably not. I know it would make me mad if I didn't want to roleplay there and was forced to, or to get a new character.

the average player should understand that this is a roleplay server and they wouldn't just get away with murder, yeah if you've developed a character for a long time and you end up in prison for life it would definitely suck but then again to me that's just like people who want to join a legal faction and do smth stupid and get imprisoned when they require a criminal record to apply, or people who have CCW licenses and have them revoked because they did something stupid ICly, or being dishonorably discharged from a legal faction because they broke a faction IC rule, those things do happen all the time, and yeah it sucks having to namechange or CK, but if your character gets caught murdering somebody (which is not something that just happens accidentally -- there's premeditation, the means to do it that are roleplayed), then that's just part of the deal and if they're caught, well your character would be imprisoned accordingly, and sometimes having to namechange is the only solution. I dont see the problem.
